Shalom! Welcome to my blog about my journey to become a rabbi, first in my Year in Israel and then four years stateside. This is where you can catch up about what I am doing, what I am learning, what sites I am seeing, etc. I plan on posting many pictures, reporting lots of things that I learn, and otherwise keeping you well informed.
So here's where I stand on my preparations for Israel: I leave the US on Monday, June 25 at 7:10pm from Boston (Logan). I have found two roommates, one is a fellow rabbinic student and one is an education student. We almost have an apartment, we have put in a bid and are waiting to hear confirmation. I will get my visa later in the week (hopefully), and that will be the last of the big, really important things to do! The rest of my preparations are mainly buying things that I will need for the trip (some extra clothes, a year's worth of contact lenses, etc.) and eventually packing.
Of course, besides getting physically ready for Israel, I have also been getting ready mentally, learning as many relevant skills as possible. This is mainly refreshing my Hebrew, as well as practicing guitar, reading, and cooking (I'm trying to cook without specialized mixes, without precooked meat, etc., since I don't know what to expect in Israel).
And of course, I'm trying to spend as much time with friends and family as possible. :)
I'll try to keep you updated, but of course I might not really get this going until I actually leave for Israel...
-Eric
